A New Exhibit Opens: "Deep Roots: African Aestetic Response to the Banjo"

The Griot Museum of Black History opened its latest exhibit on october 19th 2025. The exhibit focuses on the African roots of the Banjo and asks up to reflect on what materials especially those tied to creativity we value. Including 27 art peices created by Professor Najjar Abdul-Musawwir between 2012 and 2017 the exhibt highlights the journey of the Banjo across the Atlantic Ocean and through early African American experiance in the Americas. Professor Najjar asks us to reflect on materiality and artifacts. How do the materials we value reflect who we are? What do they say about our contribution to our shared human history?
